A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that replaces one or several missing teeth. A titanium implant or “post”, is placed in the jaw bone and serves as the root. After some healing time, a dental crown will be placed on the implant and the patient will be able to chew normally. Dental implants have a very high success rate and are done right here in the office under local anesthetic. Dental implants can be used to replace one tooth, many teeth (with an implant bridge), or even a full upper or lower jaw through a denture that is hooked onto many dental implants.
